Member Types & Dues

For each member, a portion of the membership fee is paid to the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA). The remainder of the fee is divided among the state board and respective local chapter. Along with the benefits provided by your state and local board, membership includes a subscription to STRUCTURE magazine and access to many useful resources from NCSEA.

Memberships run from October 1 through September 30 of the following year. At this time, we are not providing discounts for joining mid-year.

Professional Engineer Member

Professional Engineer Members are licensed professional engineers in the State of North Carolina that primarily practice structural engineering or that practice engineering in association with structural engineers.

Graduate Engineer Member

Graduate Engineer Members are those who hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering from a college recognized by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and who may or may not have completed the EI or EIT exam.  Those practicing structural engineering who are not yet licensed qualify for this membership.

Engineering Educator Member

Engineering Educator Members are full-time college-level faculty members who primarily teach course subjects involving structural engineering.

Engineering Student Member

Engineering Student Members are individuals who are enrolled in an engineering curriculum at an ABET-accredited institution.  Student members have no voting rights but are encouraged to participate in all other SEA activities and events.

Associate Member

Associate Members are individuals without an ABET accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering but who are employed under the direction of a structural engineer and who have attained a reasonable level of proficiency in understanding the principals of structural engineering.

Affiliate Member

Affiliate Members are individuals that provide support services to the structural engineering profession.  This includes, but is not limited to, insurance, finance, accounting, legal, scientific, technology support or other associations or related industry representatives who provide products that are specified by structural engineers.  (Individuals involved in recruitment of engineers as a specific service are not eligible for membership.)

Retired Member

Retired Members are members in good standing who have retired from the active profession of structural engineering.

Affiliate Member Firm ≤ 10 Employees

Affiliate Members Firms furnish support services to the structural engineering profession.  This includes, but is not limited to, insurance, finance, accounting, legal, scientific, technology support or other associations or related industry representatives who provide products that are specified by structural engineers.  (Firms involved in recruitment of engineers or that practice structural engineering service are not eligible for this membership.)
