So, why am I doing this?

I'm doing this because so many of the local engineering groups are not thriving, and many are failing. One of the reasons for failing could be that we're too splintered as a community. My thought was to see how many people are interested in having an engineering community. This involves 3 types of participants; 1. All the people I know who are currently in societies and want fuller meetings, 2. attracting engineers who aren't in local societies because they aren't aware of them, AND 3. engineers who just want a social gathering without strings.

No Scarlett, why are YOU doing this?

I want a thriving engineering community in Greensboro. I love being an engineer. I like technical things and I like what engineers do. I want to know more about other engineers and see the problems they face in their industry.

How do I see this first 6 months of the group working?

I see it as a monthly group that gets engineers together to socialize. Hopefully, when new engineers show up to gatherings, they'll have plenty of different people to speak with. If there aren't many people at a meeting - you options are slim to attract/keep new members - that's why I'd like all people reading this to show up at every meeting they can. This first 6 meetings are the big push.

Then what?

I'm not sure. Hopefully, at the end of 6 months, we'll have enough new/old members to have a great monthly social that all folks want to attend. Maybe we find a regular place to meet - or maybe we try something new each month. If you have suggestions - let me know.
